This program, which is one of the pioneer programs of Ajialouna, was launched when Ajialouna was established in 1995 in coordination with the Ministry of Education.
It is comprised of seven public health clinics, three dental clinics and two medical centers.
The goal of this program is to provide elementary public school students with routine medical check-ups conducted by family doctors and pediatricians in order to detect any health problem and administer the proper treatment. Adequate medical drugs, physiotherapy and even hospitalization when needed are provided, all at the expense of Ajialouna.
The purpose of this project in general is to improve the health of the students in elementary public schools.
This program is managed by a team of professional doctors, dentists, nurses, pharmacists and volunteers.
In 2010 the program served 16,500 students in 52 Elementary Public Schools in Beirut and Tripoli.
A total of 9,694 students were treated and 10,729 items of medications were given.
At the beginning of each academic year, newly enrolled students routinely undergo a general physical screening. In case a certain health problem is detected, the student is referred to the school-based district clinic where the student is re-examined by the physician in charge and is, in case of need, referred to a specialist at Ajialouna Medical Center or other specialized ones. Appropriate medications are provided on site. Further medical checkup, Lab tests and x-rays as well as surgeries if needed are referred to the medical center in Ajialouna for follow-up.
