This program, which started in 2004, revolves around providing care for the elderly, especially the breadwinners of their families. It provides necessary medical care and medicine by doctors of many specialties, namely family medicine and geriatrics, at Ajialouna’s medical center. It also compensates for the outstanding fee of surgery and treatment beyond the coverage of the Ministry of Public Health. This service is covered by the surgery aid fund at Ajialouna.
Beneficiaries are also provided with a yearly health insurance card that covers:
All the services provided are free of charge.
A total of 66 elderly (15 men and 51 women) benefited from this program in 2010.
The elderly beneficiaries are usually referred by friends, or another NGO or they hear about Ajialouna’s services from the media (TV Spots, programs).
The elderly fills an application and provides the pertaining documents to request assistance.
Ajialouna’s social committee studies the application and visits the household of the applicant to decide on the authenticity of the case.
The elderly will be examined at Ajialouna’s Medical Center by a family physician and the Geriatric specialist to assess his/her physical and mental status and to decide on the medication that should be provided.
The Elderly will be registered and provided with an insurance card - (smart card) that will enable him/her to benefit from the services of a medical center assigned by Ajialouna, in case of emergency and further need for examination.
Appointments - every 15 days - will be scheduled with the Geriatric doctors at Ajialouna Clinic. The administration at the clinic will assign a sponsor for each Elderly; thus, the whole program is funded directly by the sponsors and their fixed contribution of $1,000 or more yearly (depending on the general physical condition of the elderly).
